Volleyball Tuesday September 15, 2020 Garretson at Flandreau Below is Flandreau's COVID-19 Event Protocol: *JH Games = 4:00 pm start in the HS Gym with the 7th grade at 4:00 pm and the 8th grade to follow. *C-B-A = 5:00 pm start in our Elementary gym. There will be a rolling schedule so the JV match will start 15 mins after the ‘C’ match has been completed. Flandreau’s ‘Fan Attendance’ info. This includes: • These rules are for both Flandreau and Garretson • Masks are REQUIRED in our facility. This includes bench players and coaches – both JH and HS matches. When a coach is standing up by the court, they can take their mask off. Players and coaches sitting on the bench will need their masks on. When players are warming-up, masks can be off. • Every participant (for the HS team) will get ONLY 4 ‘vouchers’ (4 vouchers per player, coach, managers, and stats). We do not have limits on the JH match but people will not be able to go from the HS gym to the Elem gym without a voucher. • Only those people with vouchers will be allowed to attend – they will still need to pay admission ($5 for adults and $3 for students) Kids under 5 years old do not need a ticket or need to pay. • All HIGH SCHOOL students do not need a voucher – they need to show some sort of school ID when they pay admission. MS and Elem students MUST have a voucher to attend and then pay admission. • Any person under age of 5 can attend without a voucher • All staff members do not need a voucher but will need to show some sort of school ID to gain admittance. Note: o Big East Conference Passes accepted

Each year Garretson requires all student athletes in grades 7-12 who participate in school sports to complete an athletic physical annually. This year due to COVID-19 the SDHSAA has recommended that schools waive the requirement for annual athletic physicals next year. The SDHSAA minimum requirement is one physical every three years. Garretson will follow this recommendation and waive physicals for all students that have taken a physical at any time after 2018-2019 WITH THE FOLLOWING EXCEPTIONS: The only students REQUIRED to have a physical exam in 2020-2021 are those student athletes entering 7th Grade, those who have never had a physical prior to the 2020-2021 school year, and those whose last physical was prior to 2017-2018. This is a one year exception as Garretson will return to our handbook policy of annual physicals following the 2020-2021 school year. Students who are required to have an athletic physical will need to schedule it with their family physician. If you have questions please contact Mr. Steckler at the school. Attached is the Athletic Physical/Handbook forms. Or you can visit our website under Documents--Athletics-- 2020-21 Athletic Physical/Handbook. https://5il.co/g3op Thank You!

"American Education Week—November 18-22, 2019—will present all Americans with a wonderful opportunity to celebrate public education and honor individuals who are making a difference in ensuring that every child receives a quality education." -- NEA Today we honor our parents! According to experts, parents need to take an active and assertive role in their children's education on a daily basis for optimal success at school. Ongoing research shows that parental involvement in schools improves student achievement, reduces absenteeism, and restores confidence among parents in their children's education. At Garretson School, we believe that parents are our children's first teachers. Thank you, parents, for all you do!

Greetings! Getting our students to and from school safely is one of our top priorities. Recent changes in the Garretson street project have made this priority a little more challenging. In the past week, with Main Street being closed, we have seen an increase in the number of people using the school’s parking lot as a “through street,” going from Main Street to Second Street (even when the busses are loading or unloading). Vehicles entering the lot from the side with the "do not enter" signs create a very serious safety concern, especially when our students are arriving for or departing from school. When dropping off or picking up your children from school, there is a designated area for parents to drop off and pick of their children. The parent drop off and pick up area is in the WEST parking lot, at the gym entrance. We request that all parents use this area for both drop off and pick up before and after school. The area by the East parking lot is reserved for busses only when students are arriving in the morning and leaving in the afternoon. Student safety is our top concern as our students arrive and leave from the schoolhouse. Keeping traffic to a minimum allows our walkers and bus-riding students to get to where they need to be in a safe manner. Thanks for your patience as the City works through their project. We’re all looking forward to seeing it completed. We appreciate your help in keeping our kids safe! Thanks you for your help, Guy Johnson, Superintendent
